First Spanish translation of Aubin's study "Mémoires sur la peinture didactique et l'éscriture figurative des Anciens Mexicains" (Paris: Imprimerie nationale, 1884) with a presentation by Miguel León Portilla. This is an epigraphic and iconographic study of the Mexican Pre-Hispanic codices from the holding of the Bibliothèque Nationale of Paris by 19th century intellectual Joseph Marius Alexis Aubin. French archaeologist Aubin (1802-1891), arrived in México in 1830 to conduct physic and astronomical research commissioned by the French Government and after learning Nahuatl he bought what was left of the extraordinary collection of codices of Italian cavalier Lorenzo Boturini Benaducci, whose larger collection had already been confiscated.
