Der herr der welt ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2012 in German and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A German science fiction movie made in 1934, Der Herr Der Welt begins with a lengthy montage where machines and assembly lines appear to be operating without human control. The film contrasts this efficient technology with conditions in a coal mine where men and horses labor in dangerous conditions hundreds of feet underground. Der Herr Der Welt depicts a utopian world where human labor is replaced with robotic machines. Wolf, the half-crazed assistant to the inventor Doctor Heller, murders Heller in an attempt to take over the world using Heller's death-ray robots. His plan is derailed by Baumann, a mining engineer. By the end of the film, Baumann has retooled Doctor Heller's militarized robots to dig tunnels underground, and the men and horses that once labored in the coal mines are now working in the sunshine. An English version of the film was released in the United States in 1935
