The protagonist of the film, Sugimoto Saheita, who spends his mornings oversleeping,drinking sake and bathing, is nevertheless a very charitable person and gives generously to his fellow villagers. Like Shōsuke-san in the song, Saheita loses everything he has and leaves his home village.
