Elsie lives as an upper-middle-class matron in a rich neighborhood on the scenic Philippines coast. She maintains a comfortable, yet unfulfilling, existence doting on her adulterous husband, Tito. Eventually, her true feelings are revealed when her former lover, Alice, visits her. A passionate scene between the two women ensues, and Elsie's past comes flooding into her present. Elsie is distraught by the decision she is pressured to make. With a cheating, boorish husband, Elsie's decision seems simple; however, being open and out is a scary notion for Elsie. Alice finally helps Elsie realize that she is not genuinely happy in her marriage and must be true to herself. After much internal turmoil, Elsie comes out to her husband and mother. She leaves Tito to live with Alice and nurse her through a battle with cancer. However, in the typical fashion of Filipino melodramatic cinema, trouble lurks for Elsie and Alice. Tito, shocked by his wife's revelation and defiance, angrily fights to get his wife back, but to no avail. Enter Barok (Alice's lesbian roommate), who has been narrating the story and harbors an intense crush on Alice. Both Tito and Barok, wrought with jealousy, must deal with the choices of Elsie and Alice. Further plot twists and inflamed emotions bring Three to its enjoyably over-the-top climax. Out of this complex web of relationships and twists emerges an engaging narrative that tackles a taboo subject within Filipino society and conveys the ultimately positive message that to deny one's true nature can only lead to unhappiness
