The making of Super Mario Clouds by Cory Arcangel ( Visual )
2 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In the first part of this work, Arcangel silently documents the real-time construction of his video game cartridge piece, Super Mario Clouds, in which he hacked a "Mario Brothers" cartridge, erasing everything but the blue sky and clouds. The Making of ..., which Arcangel calls "a documentary on making a cartridge," records the artist in this apartment, making the cartridge for the 2004 Whitney Biennial, where Super Mario Clouds was exhibited. While The Making of Super Mario Clouds poses as an instructional video, willfully amateur camerawork and the omission of any soundtrack indicate the artist's intentions: to give viewers, in his words, "a feel for the process, in its gloriously boring true detail." The second part is a 40-minute video re-scan of the clouds"--Trade catalog

Cory Arcangel. All the small things by Michael Bank Et Al Christoffersen ( Book )
1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art is proud to present All the Small Things, its first solo exhibition with American artist Cory Arcangel (b. 1978). The exhibition opens on March 22, 2014. The exhibition is Arcangel’s first exhibition of new work (some which reference older seminal works) since 2011.0All the Small Things is part of HEART’s Future Programme, which has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Obel Family Foundation.0Though Arcangel is only 35 years old, he is already regarded as a pioneer in the use of digital technologies in his work. His early works feature video game mods in which the artist hacked into old Nintendo game cartridges, a line of inquiry which has led to a new body of work that further investigates consumer technologies. Altering and manipulating both contemporary and dated technologies Arcangel produces work that shares sentiments with Minimalism and Fluxus, and calls attention to the complicated, evolving relationships we have as consumers, and humans, to the tools, media platforms, and data that saturate our screens and thus our lives.0Arcangel’s work bridges the high- and low-brow, popular culture and art. With All the Small Things, he presents media and cultural references that are widely accessible and known to the masses, in novel and unorthodox ways. Arcangel is a firm believer in making his work available and freely shares many of his video and code based works on the Internet. His practice has gained Arcangel an immense online presence and following that is both independent of and outside the mainstream fine art world.0Exhibition: Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, Denmark (22.3.-22.6.2014)

Smoove ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"In Smoove, Arcangel satirizes the music video form, in particular the use of women to sell the music product. Arcangel presents a hyper-kinetic teenage girl, whose stylized, flailing mimicry of the kinds of dancing that one might see in a music video, combined with her insistent, near-manic smile, threatens to overturn the carefully controlled conventions of the genre"--Publisher's web site
Interchill @ FACT Center ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
"Produced during Arcangel's residency at Liverpool's FACT Center, Interchill @ FACT Center is a carefully ramshackle production that appears as if it might have emerged from a public access TV studio some time in the late 1980s. Bracketed by stroboscopic dance segments, the heart of the work is a seemingly casual conversation about pop music between the artist and a local teenager, in which audio and video tracks are slightly out of sync, and digital compression lends the image a softened quality ..."--Publisher's website

All the parts from Simon and Garfunkel's 1984 Central Park performance where Garfunkel sings with his hands in his pockets ( Visual )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
"Arcangel brings a willfully lo-fi aesthetic to bear in manipulating a consumer video document of a twenty-year-old Simon and Garfunkel concert; his concerns lie as much with the event's reproduction and dissemination as with any of its supposedly original qualities. Investigating the social production of celebrity and its representations, Arcangel touches on issues of bootlegging, amateurism, and a culture in which participation can border on obsession"--Electronic Arts Intermix
