Subject: Full-length portrait of Washington copied from a painting titled "Washington and the Duché letter, Valley Forge, 1777," probably painted by Christian Schussele. This "fictitious" portrait depicts Washington in uniform in three-quarter view seated in a chair beside a table, body turned to his right, head turned and gazing to his left. His right arm rests on the table, and he grasps a letter in his right hand. His left hand rests on the arm of the chair with his sword resting against the chair below it. A coat is thrown over the table.
