Jahrhunderts gibt. Regisseur Iwan Pyrjew hatte bereits zuvor Werke Dostojewskis wie "Weiße Nächte" und "Der Idiot" adaptiert. Seine werkgetreue Verfilmung des letzten Romans des Schriftstellers konnte er nicht mehr beenden, nach seinem Tod wurde sie von den Schauspielern Kirill Lawrow (Iwan) und Michail Uljanow (Dimitri) abgeschlossen
