Gideon Tomlinson diary and account book by Gideon Tomlinson( )

in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Diary kept in May and June, 1802, by a young man of Stratford, Connecticut, who enjoyed visiting and riding with the ladies. The name Tomlinson in clear on the inscription page, but the first initial is hard to read. However, the fact that in his accounts he paid Judge Channing for tuition (Channing taught at Yale, from which Tomlinson graduated in 1802) leads to the assumption that it was probably Gideon. Accounts in the second portion of the volume provide evidence that the writer took a trip by coach and carriage to Richmond, Williamsburg, Georgetown, and Washington DC in 1803. He also listed book purchases, room and board, and clothing expenses
