This oratorio premiered in January 1745, and is a masterpiece that shows Handel at the height of his powers both as composer and dramatist. The central figure is Dejanira, despite the title of the work. Handel delivers a masterly portrait of a strong and determined woman gradually undermined from within
Platée : comic opera by Jean-Philippe Rameau( Visual )

33 editions published between 1990 and 2014 in 5 languages and held by 230 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Written for the 1745 marriage of the Dauphin and the Spanish Infanta, Platée was a minor revolution when first performed, and was also the first purely burlesque work staged. Rameau's work on the vicissitudes of love satirises the sacrosanct rules of 18th century operatic form and is an enormous pastiche of traditional French opera. With love as its most popular subject, Rameau's use of Jupiter's feigned courtship of Plataea gleefully parodies every 18th century musical form. Thalia and Momus have come to help Thespius, the inventor of comedy, stage a performance to correct the faults of humans. The subject will be "the laughable strategy" once used by Jupiter to cure the jealousy of the irascible Juno."--SBS

La Caravane du Caire is one of the rare works that Grétry composed for the Académie Royale that respected the conventions of the institution. Full of verve and color, this opera was one of the greatest successes of his career. A few exotic touches and the presence of a ballet also contributed to the score's success
