A voting booth is at left, with a bald eagle perched atop it. A man is seen addressing a barefoot African American and asks him "How are you sovereign" to which the African American man replies "Thanks massa Berry Kingy." Above them, "Amnesty" depicts an African American man with bare feet is seen kissing another African American man in a suit and top hat. Above the image is the Candidate's oath, along with a speech by "James Priggins." At right "Americans behold our freedom! Remedy.--Make our candidates take the oath and sign the pledges." The "big politician" is seen leading the "little politicians" by their necks towards the polls. The little politicians are then seen leading male voters with strings tied to their nose rings. Soldiers guard the poll booth which is manned by men drawn like monkeys and has a sleeping owl perched on it. The booth reads "Blind men vote here as told." The Thomas A. Davies Papers include his U.S. Military Academy diploma, military commissions from his Civil War service and news clippings about him, but the vast majority of the collection consists of professional correspondence and military orders in the period 1862-1865, much of it dating from the Battle of Corinth. The orders are handwritten and signed by the generals involved, including Davies himself and General Rosecrans. The correspondence contains explanations and clarifications of military strategy, including the Battle of Corinth. All the material in the collections springs from Davies's military career, and the only correspondence from his life after the Civil War relates to subsequent reports of those military exploits
