Clarice Lispector (1920-1977) wurde in der Ukraine geboren, gelangte mit ihrer Familie auf der Flucht vor Pogromen in den ländlichen Norden Brasiliens und lebte später in Rio de Janeiro. Aus ärmlichen Verhältnissen stammend, studierte sie Jura und begann eine Karriere als Journalistin. Im Alter von dreiundzwanzig Jahren wurde sie Schriftstellerin.Sie schrieb Romane, Erzählungen, Kinderbücher sowie literarische Kolumnen und wurde für ihr Werk vielfach ausgezeichnet. Ray-Güde Mertin (1943-2007) lebte viele Jahre in Brasilien undwar Übersetzerin von u. a. Clarice Lispector,António Lobo Antunes und Raduan Nassar. Die vonihr gegründete Literaturagentur vertritt bisheute Werke zahlreicher portugiesisch- undspanischsprachiger Autoren, darunter das desNobelpreisträgers José Saramago.-
