Alexander C. Hanson was a Maryland lawyer who served in the House of Representatives and the Senate. He was the editor of the Federal Republican, a Federalist newspaper that bitterly condemned the War of 1812 and President James Madison. Twice angry mobs destroyed his office. The Federal Republican was published in Baltimore 1802-1812 and 1816-1819 and in Georgetown 1812-1816. These letters, mostly undated, discussed Hanson's money problems, desertion by his friends after the newspaper riots, and politics
