Military journal and record books kept by and for John Winslow. The first vol., containing journal entries, copies of letters and orders to and from Winslow as Lt. Col. of the First Battalion of Provincial Forces under William Shirley on an expedition to dislodge the French from Nova Scotia, accounts, returns for clothing, supplies, and transports used, and a list of the Acadians removed, was kept primarily at Fort Beausejour and Grand Pre, N.S. from 10 Feb. 1755 - 22 Jan. 1756. The second and third vols. were kept by Winslow's secretary, Henry Leddel, from 18 Feb. - 2 Aug. 1756 and 17 Jly. 1756 - 29 Jan. 1757 (both with notes by Leddel of 23 Apr. 1757) during Winslow's expedition as commander in chief of the forces in defense of Crown Pt. and Lake Champlain, kept at Forts William Henry and Edward. The vols. contain copies of orders and letters to and from Winslow, accounts, returns, and other military records

The Thomas Gage papers consist of the military and governmental correspondence and headquarters papers of General Thomas Gage, officer in the British Army in America (1754-1763) and commander-in-chief of the British forces in North America (1763-1775). The papers include incoming correspondence and retained copies of letters written by Gage, together with a large quantity of documents related to military administration and manuscript maps of North America. The collection is particularly strong in documenting British administration of North America after the French and Indian War, interactions with Native Americans, and the years preceding the American Revolution. The collection also includes a the Thomas Gage warrants, a series of financial documents authorizing payments related to British military expenses in North America during Gage's service as commander-in-chief

This collection consists of a bookplate belonging to John Campbell, Fourth Earl of Loudoun. It bears the motto, "I Bide My Time." The bookplate's printed coat of arms features a two-headed dragon decorated with mantling, which is resting on a helm that is nestled into a five-pronged crown. A shield is below the crown, divided into eight pie-slices that alternate between ermine fur and dark sections. The shield is stabilized on either side by a soldier with an upright spear and a woman holding a roll of paper. The shield most likely was colored Argent and Sable, or black and white. The bookplate was mounted inside the cover of The Memoirs of Cap. George Carleton, an English Officer, Who Served in the Two Last Wars against France and Spain, and was Present in Several Engagements both in the Fleet and Army, printed in London, 1743 for Thomas Astley
