This autographed album onced belonged to Frederick Dent Grant (1850-1912), the son of General U.S. Grant. On Tuesday, March 9, 1864, General U.S. Grant received the commission of Lieutenant-General. During this time, he received an invitation fro the President to dine with him and Mrs. Lincoln at the White House on Saturday, March 12, and on Friday, March 11, he attended a cabinet meeting. General Grant took his son, Frederick Dent, with him to the meeting and the enterprising young boy took his autograph album along with him to the meeting. The youth collected the autographs of Lincoln's Cabinet and those in attendance at the Friday session of March 11, 1864. In attendance were President Lincoln and Cabinet and Chiefs of the Army. The autographs are those of President Lincoln, S.P. Chase, Edwin M. Stanton, Gideon Welles, M. Blair, U.S. Grant, H.W. Halleck, William H. Seward, Geo. G. Meade, C.C. Augur, John Sherman, and Surgeon Robert K. Smith. The autographs album was made by J.B. Lippincott & Co
