"Sven-Åke Johansson versteht das Launische und Sprunghafte der kleeschen Texte nicht als Makel, sondern als Qualität eigenen Rechts. Die dreizehn Vertonungen greifen genau diese Eigenschaften der Texte auf, ja man könnte sogar sagen, dass sich der Zusammenhang zwischen Wort und Musik in diesen Eigenschaften manifestiert. Johansson vertont Klees Gedichte nicht, er reichert sie an. Das gilt zunächst für den Vortrag, der auf einen zudringlichen Eingriff seitens des Musikers verzichtet. Sachlich, lakonisch und mit zurückhaltender Anspannung trägt Johansson diese Texte vor. Kein Drama, kein Pathos, keine humorvolle Übersteigerung, keine Wertung. Johanssons klare Diktion, seine deutliche, fast schon überzeichnete Aussprache verleiht Klees Texten etwas Lapidares, ohne ihnen das Persönliche und Intime zu nehmen. Die Musik verhält sich dazu, oder aber sie tut es nicht. Wollte man die Musik des gesamten Zyklus auf einen Begriff bringen, dann wäre der der Reflexion ein idealer Ausgangspunkt. Der aphoristische Charakter der Texte setzt eine musikalische Betrachtung frei, die sich in Farbspielen und Klangeffekten, in elaborierten Soli und kurzen Charakterepisoden niederschlägt.
