Hall has "caught enough of the spirit of curiousity to feel desirous of seeing it as soon as may be, myself." Hall is referring to the 1833 case against Rev. Ephraim Avery, a Rhode Island Methodist minister accused of impregnating and murdering Sarah Cornell, a young woman he had excommunicated from his church.
