Jasper Johns : drawings, 1997-2007 by Jasper Johns( Book )

6 editions published between 2007 and 2008 in English and held by 200 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Paintings on marble by Brice Marden( Book )

5 editions published between 1993 and 2006 in English and held by 180 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication is the first to concentrate on Brice Marden's paintings on marble, a unique group of works made between 1981 and 1987 on the Greek island of Hydra. It reveals for the first time the essential place these paintings hold in the development of the artist's work. Brice Marden's career is divided into two distinct periods. The first, from the early 1960s to the mid 1980s, is characterized by reduced, often mono-chromatic compositions, and the second, from the mid 1980s to the present, by looser, more expressionistic paintings. The 30 works that comprise this series, all painted in oil and graphite on marble fragments, represent a key transition from Marden's earlier minimal compositions to his later calligraphic ones. The first such work, painted on a remnant of marble the artist found on the island of Hydra, incorporates the organic patterns - rough edges and meandering veins - of the broken stone and marks the introduction of diagonal lines to Marden's work. These intimate and lesser known paintings provide new insight into the evolution of this great artist's work

Jasper Johns : new sculpture and works on paper by Jasper Johns( Book )

3 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 171 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This monograph reproduces sculptures and works on paper completed over the last five years by Jasper Johns (born 1930), who in February 2011 became the first visual artist to receive a Presidential Medal of Honor since 1977. The sculptures, cast in bronze, aluminum and silver from wax originals, feature Johns' signature number grid and the impressions of various objects and textures, such as choreographer Merce Cunningham's foot. The recent works on paper include a series of drawings and prints based on three small works Johns made early in 2010 on Shrinky Dinks (a plastic made for children to draw on, which shrinks when heated). Color plates are accompanied by a conversation between Johns and fellow artist Terry Winters, which takes Johns' newest works as the starting point for a broader discussion of his artistic practice."--Provided by teh publisher

Ellsworth Kelly : New York drawings, 1954-1962 by Richard Shiff( Book )

6 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 140 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since the 1940s Ellsworth Kelly has developed a unique vocabulary of abstraction based on the observation of nature and the world around him. This book brings to light a key moment in Kelly’s artistic evolution, featuring gorgeous reproductions of works on paper in a variety of media, including ink, graphite, oil paint, and collage. Made in the years after Kelly returned to New York from Paris, where he lived after World War II studying on the GI Bill, these works are modest in scale, with no dimension larger than 20 inches. Yet these are crucial pieces that further the innovative visual vocabulary Kelly began to develop during his years in France. Kelly has returned to these drawings repeatedly, transforming them into large-scale paintings and sculptures—even as recently as 2013, on the cusp of his 90th birthday. Richard Shiff’s penetrating essay places these works in the context of Kelly’s groundbreaking oeuvre, offering perceptive insights into the artist’s technique, vision, and place in the pantheon of modern masters
