"Adelaide Procter (1825-1864) is one of the most important 19th-century women poets to be reassessed by literary critics in recent years. She was a significant figure in the Victorian literary landscape." "A poet (who outsold most writers bar Tennyson), a philanthropist and Roman Catholic convert, Procter committed herself to the cause of single, fallen and homeless women. She was a key member of the Langham Place Circle of campaigning women and worked tirelessly for the society for Promoting the Employment of Women." "Gill Gregory's The Life and Work of Adelaide Procter: Poetry, Feminism and Fathers considers the career of this compelling and remarkable woman and discusses the extent to which she struggled to find her own voice in response to the works of some seminal literary 'fathers'."--Jacket

A house to let by Charles Dickens( Book )

5 editions published between 2005 and 2014 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

When the empty house across the way appears to be suddenly occupied, the elderly Sophonisba enlists her equally elderly admirer, Jabez Jarber, and her servant, Trottle, to get to the bottom of the mystery. But in so doing, Sophonisba will find her life surprisingly changed for the better. "A House to Let" was the first collaboration between esteemed authors Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Elizabeth Gaskell, and Adelaide Anne Procter. With each author contributing a chapter, "A House to Let" was originally published in the Christmas 1858 edition of Dickens's Household Words magazine. Researching Childhood Emotion : Using Performative Methodologies to Engage With Children?s Emerging Understandings of Emotion by Adelaide Anne Procter( )

1 edition published in 2017 in Undetermined and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This case study examines how performative methodologies can offer opportunities for children to represent their emerging knowledges of the constructed and embodied dimensions of emotional experiences. I show how childrens dramatised performances reveal how they appropriate the discourses of emotion (constructed emotion) available to them within the school setting. In addition, I consider how childrens embodied knowledges of emotion (embodied emotion) constituted through their engagement in a wide range of contexts over time intersect with the ways in which they make meaning of such discourses. I suggest that as children create and perform imagined scenarios around childhood emotion at school, the intersections between these two forms of emotional knowledge are made visible. To do so, the case draws on a collaborative ethnography with children aged 9 and 10 years in a primary school setting. More specifically, it examines an extract from a written transcript of a videoed impromptu performance about peer-bullying by a group of three girls participating in the research project
