Particles and fields by G. W Semenoff( Book )

10 editions published between 1998 and 1999 in English and held by 175 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The focus of this volume is on quantum field theory: inegrable theories, statistical systems, and applications to condensed-matter physics. It covers some of the most significant recent advances in theoretical physics at a level accessible to advanced graduate students. The contributions, each by a noted researcher, dicuss such topics as: some remarkable features of integrable Toda field theories (E. Corrigan), properties of a gas of interacting Fermions in a lattice of magnetic ions (J. Feldman & . al.), how quantum groups arise in three-dimensional topological quantum field thory (D. Freed), a method for computing correlation functions of solvable lattice models (T. Miwa), matrix models discussed from the point of view of integrable systems (A. Morozov), localization of path integrals in certain equivariant cohomologies (A. Niemi), Calogero-Moser systems (S. Ruijsenaars), planar gauge theories with broken symmetries (M. de Wild Propitius & F.A. Bais), quantum-Hall fluids (A. Capelli & al.), spectral theory of quantum vortex operators (P.I. Ettinghoff)
Theoretical physics at the end of the twentieth century : lecture notes of the CRM summer school, Banff, Alberta by Yvan Saint-Aubin( Book )

7 editions published between 2002 and 2010 in English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume provides a snapshot of topics engaging theoretical physicists at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first. Based on seven of the courses given at the 1999 CRM Summer School in Banff, the chapters provide timely, diverse and exciting views of their fields. The contributions include: - Supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory and integrable systems (E. D'Hoker and D.H. Phong) - Branes, black holes and anti-De Sitter space (M.J. Duff) - Turbulence (K. Gawedzki) - Bose--Einstein condensation and coherent matter waves (A. Griffin) - Deformed Virasoro and elliptic algebras (S. Odake) - Mesoscopic physics (B. Simons, A. Atland) - QCD in extreme conditions (F. Wilczek) Young physicists will find in these chapters pedagogical introductions to subjects currently active in theoretical physics, and more seasoned physicists will find a chance to share the excitement of fields outside their immediate research interests

Symmetries and integrability of difference equations by D Levi( Book )

5 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 126 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Difference equations are playing an increasingly important role in the natural sciences. Indeed many phenomena are inherently discrete and are naturally described by difference equations. Phenomena described by differential equations are therefore approximations of more basic discrete ones. Moreover, in their study it is very often necessary to resort to numerical methods. This always involves a discretization of the differential equations involved, thus replacing them by difference equations. This book shows how Lie group and integrability techniques, originally developed for differential equations, have been adapted to the case of difference ones. Each of the eleven chapters is a self-contained treatment of a topic, containing introductory material as well as the latest research results. The book will be welcomed by graduate students and researchers seeking an introduction to the field. As a survey of the current state of the art it will also serve as a valuable reference"--Provided by publisher
Algebraic methods and q-special functions( Book )

Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models by Workshop on Calogero-Moser-Sutherland Models( Book )

7 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 124 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the 1970s F. Calogero and D. Sutherland discovered that for certain potentials in one-dimensional systems, but for any number of particles, the Schrödinger eigenvalue problem is exactly solvable. Until then, there was only one known nontrivial example of an exactly solvable quantum multi-particle problem. J. Moser subsequently showed that the classical counterparts to these models is also amenable to an exact analytical approach. The last decade has witnessed a true explosion of activities involving Calogero-Moser-Sutherland models, and these now play a role in research areas ranging from theoretical physics (such as soliton theory, quantum field theory, string theory, solvable models of statistical mechanics, condensed matter physics, and quantum chaos) to pure mathematics (such as representation theory, harmonic analysis, theory of special functions, combinatorics of symmetric functions, dynamical systems, random matrix theory, and complex geometry). The aim of this volume is to provide an overview of the many branches into which research on CMS systems has diversified in recent years. The contributions are by leading researchers from various disciplines in whose work CMS systems appear, either as the topic of investigation itself or as a tool for further applications
