1 edition published in 2012 in French and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The original introduction by Dahlberg remains an excellent overview of the work, covering such topics as the iconographic significance of the imagery and the use of irony in developing the central theme of love. His new preface reviews selected scholarship through 1990 and beyond, which examines, for example, the sources and influences, the two authors, the nature of the allegorical narrative as a genre, the use of first person, and the poem's early reception

This manuscript has been untraced since 1936. Before that time it belonged to three famous collectors. The first was Claude-Robert Jardel, a Premonstratensian canon at Braine, near Paris. His signature appears at the bottom of one of the pages. In fact, Claude-Robert acquired this book from the church at Braine, for it is recorded in a library catalog there from about 1720. The large initial Q on the opening page is filled with penwork tracery. Such letters are called puzzle initials. The Bob Jones Library manuscript was recently rebound in a medieval binding. Note the tabs at the top and bottom of the spine. Medieval books were stored in chests with the spine facing up. Users pulled the book out by the spine tabs. - Scott Gwara
