L'œil du IIIe Reich : Walter Frentz, le photographe de Hitler( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in French and held by 30 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Produced by Leni Riefenstahl as a celebration of the olympic ideal and the Third Reich, Riefenstahl shot one and half million feet of film and spent 18 months in the editing room to create this record of the Berlin Olympic games. This documentary was produced at the specific request of Adolph Hitler as the Third Reich's official record of the XI Olympic Games held in Germany in 1936. Although controversial for its ties to, and representation of National Socialism, this film is considered by many to be a brilliant and ground-breaking sports documentary. Leni Riefenstahl maintains that the film contained no propaganda or political content and that she had many difficulties working with Dr. Goebbels during the production of the film. Riefenstahl made a film that celebrates the human body by combining the poetry of bodies in motion with close-ups of athletes in the heat of competition. Part I, "The Festival of the People," includes the carrying of the flame from Greece, the lighting of the torch and the track-and-field events where American runner Jessie Owens won an unprecedented four gold medals. Part II, Festival of Beauty, focuses on the "pure" beauty of the body and movement. Five years after this film was made the German army retraced the route that the olympic torch had traveled from Athens, invading Greece in 1941
