Louis-Philippe Hébert (Sainte-Sophie-d'Halifax, 1850 - Westmount, 1917) est l'un des artistes les plus illustres de l'histoire de l'art au Québec et au Canada. Après avoir atteint des sommets dans la maîtrise de la sculpture sur bois, notamment à la cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Ottawa et à la basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal, il a, par la suite, fait entrer l'art canadien dans la modernité en devenant le premier sculpteur du pays à fondre dans le bronze les héros de notre histoire. Travaillant de façon intermittente à Paris et à Montréal, Hébert réalisa au cours de sa carrière les dix premiers groupes et statues de la façade de l'Hôtel du Parlement de Québec, 22 monuments commémoratifs érigés d'un océan à l'autre, et des dizaines de bustes, de statuettes et de bas-relief. Ami des plus grands, tant politiciens, financiers, membres du clergé, artistes que sommités de la sculpture française, il fut le sculpteur canadien le plus talentueux et le plus célèbre de son temps. Tirant profit de la grande rétrospective des oeuvres de Louis-Philippe Hébert présentée au Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec en 2001, le cinéaste André Lavoie est retourné sur les traces de l'homme et de l'artiste
