First debate between the two major-party U.S. presidential candidates Bill Clinton (D-Pres. U.S.) and Bob Dole (former U.S. Senator, R-Kansas), Oct. 6, 1996, moderated by Jim Lehrer, PBS news anchor. To Lehrer's questions, the candidate had 90 seconds to respond, the opponent had 60 seconds to rebut and the candidate had 30 seconds to respond to the rebuttal. The debate focused on domestic issues, especially the role of the federal government in citizens' lives, who should get a tax cut and for what reason, and the drug problem, especially among young people

Second 1992 debate between U.S. presidential candidates Bill Clinton (D-Pres. U.S.) and Bob Dole (former U.S. Senator, R-KS). They responded to questions from an audience of 113 persons whose votes were still undecided. The debate focused on a wide range of domestic concerns, including the economy, taxes, Medicare and education. There was only one foreign policy question, which concerned the possibility of sending U.S. troops as peacekeepers in the Middle East. Mr. Dole made some ethics charges against Pres. Clinton, who responded that personal attacks were not relevant to people who were concerned about their jobs and their children's education
