Seven years in Tibet by Jean-Jacques Annaud( Visual )

14 editions published between 1998 and 2013 in English and held by 1,236 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This adaptation of Harrer's acclaimed book focuses on Harrer, a Nazi party member whose life was changed by his experiences in Tibet with the Dalai Lama. Having survived a treacherous climb on the challenging peak of Nanga Parbat and a stint in a British POW camp, Harrer and climbing guide Peter Aufschnaiter arrive at the Tibetan city of Lhasa, where the 14-year-old Dalai Lama lives as ruler of Tibet. Their stay is longer than either could have expected (the "seven years" of the title), and their livesare forever transformed by their proximity to the Tibetan leader and the peaceful ways of the Buddhist people. China looms over the land as a constant invasive threat, but Seven Years in Tibet is more concerned with viewing Tibetan history through the eyes of a visitor. The film is filled with stunning images and delightful moments of discovery and soothing, lighthearted spirituality, but what's missing here is a greater understanding of the young Dalai Lama and the culture of Tibet. The result is the feeling that only part of the story's been told here--or maybe just the wrong story. But Harrer's memoir is moving and heartfelt, and director Jean-Jacques Annaud has effectively captured both sincerity and splendor in this flawed but worthwhile film

"Chronicles the story of one of the great movements of nonviolent resistance in modern history. In March 1959, an estimated 15,000 unarmed Tibetan women took to the streets of Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, to oppose the violent occupation of their country by the Communist Chinese. The surviving exiled elders are the last generation of women left to tell the story and to transmit the cultural legacy they carry. These women, having survived decades in prison and perilous escapes across the Himalayas, along with their daughters and granddaughters, today, have become the architects and builders of a new Tibet in exile"--Dalai Lama Foundation.org

"Jetsun Pema, the Dalai Lama's younger sister, gives us a rare and poignant account of life in Tibet before the Chinese occupation -a world that is lost forever. She presents her story from her childhood, growing up with her brother in pre-invasion Tibet, to her work today as a minister of the Tibetan government. Her remarkable account of Tibet of yesteryear reveals both day-to-day and monastic life as well as popular traditions, culture and Buddhist wisdom. She provides a first-hand account of some of the most turbulent years in the country's history as well as the continuous work for a free Tibet"--Page 4 of cover

Pour que refleurisse le monde [entretiens] by Irène Frain( Recording )

1 edition published in 2004 in French and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
