Not knot(
Visual
)
3 editions published between 1991 and 2011 in English and held by 116 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This video is a guided tour into computer animated hyperbolic space. It proceeds from the world of knots to its complementary space, what's not a knot. It shows the geometry of the knot complement, the space around the knot and then the viewer sees what it is like to "fly through' the hyperbolic space. The supplement contains the video script and provides further explanation

The shape of space(
Visual
)
2 editions published between 1998 and 2014 in English and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
With the use of computer graphics and nontechnical language, author Jeffrey Weeks explains the idea of topology, an area of mathematics important for theorizing about the shape of the universe. A glimpse of nonEuclidean geometry is provided by showing how a twodimensional space a "fundamental domain", may be considered to be the surface of a torus, with properties different from those of a different plane. The analogy is extended by showing a cube as a fundamental domain. Also included is an interview with Jeffrey Weeks

"These are programs that you can run over the Web using the fillout forms capabilities of your browser. They allow you to investigate some interesting areas of current mathematics by providing you with the means to manipulate the mathematical objects directly. Most include descriptions of the underlying theory, as well as interactive graphics. These include QuasiTiler, Cyberview, Kali, and Orbifold Pinball."

Viro's patchworking disproves Ragsdale's conjecture(
Visual
)
1 edition published in 1997 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
This animated video explains new developments concerning Hilbert's sixteenth problem, still unsolved, dealing with ways nonsingular level sets of polynomials can be arranged in the projected plane. Mathematician Virginia Ragsdale had conjectured an upper bound on the number of topological circles resulting from algebraic curves of degree 2k. After almost 90 years, Oleg Viro has proposed a new combinatorial method for constructing curves, known as patchworking, which has shown counterexamples to the Ragsdale Conjecture

1991 annual report to the National Science Foundation(
)
1 edition published in 1991 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Geometry Center research program has a number of different aspects, most of which involve longer term commitments, such as, development of research software, teams of individuals visually exploring mathematical structures and sponsoring of workshops. The Center is built on the research programs of its faculty. These programs have flourished and interacted under the Center umbrella. There are many interconnections and commonalities between the fields represented. Here, a summary of the research work of each of the faculty members. Some of the research topics are geometric calculus of variations, group theory, geometric algorithms, and computer graphics
