Tuel introducing Lockwood's father, M.J. Lockwood, to General Frémont, appears shortly before Lockwood's appointment as an aide de camp to Frémont - and a letter of recommendation for Lockwood from J.H. Martindale to the President. A certificate cites his courage at the storming of Fort Fisher and promotes him to brevet major. There are also a few letters relating to New York State veterans' associations
