Henry C. Lockwood correspondence,1861-1881, mostly official documents related to his Civil War service. The collection includes certificates of competence, letters of introduction - one, from J.E. Tuel introducing Lockwood's father, M.J. Lockwood, to General Frémont, appears shortly before Lockwood's appointment as an aide de camp to Frémont - and a letter of recommendation for Lockwood from J.H. Martindale to the President. A certificate cites his courage at the storming of Fort Fisher and promotes him to brevet major. There are also a few letters relating to New York State veterans' associations
