Scum by Alan Clarke ( Visual )
29 editions published between 1979 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 131 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
On a bus driving through the desolate countryside, young juvenile offender Carlin (Winstone) awaits his fate along with two other young boys transferring to a remote borstal, a prison for boys. Upon arrival he finds a brutal authoritarian system completely uninterested in reforming any of the young charges; equally treacherous is the inmate hierarchy which he must learn to navigate. Soon bearing his battle scars on his face, Carlin quickly ascends to the role of 'Daddy' or top dog, but not at a small price. Unfortunately others are not so savvy and fall afoul of the social system, leading to beatings, a brutal rape, a bloody suicide, and a vicious climactic revolt. This film was director Clarke's indictment of the British juvenile system and was subsequently banned by the BBC which had produced it
Made in Britain by Alan Clarke ( Visual )
28 editions published between 1982 and 2011 in 4 languages and held by 108 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Trevor is a violent, racist skinhead who refuses to cooperate with any attempts by the courts or social workers to rehabilitate him. He is a bright boy who sees himself as the victim of authoritarianism and believes he can beat the system with belligerence and defiance. His forthright but confused sense of pride in his white heritage is a personification of the dark underbelly of 1980s Britain. Intelligent and articulate, Trevor is smart enough to understand the trap of crime, prison, and poverty he's walking into but too angry to care. Obnoxious though Trevor undoubtedly is, behind his aggressive façade are glimpses of a desperate individual, and it becomes hard not to pity him
The firm by Alan Clarke ( Visual )
13 editions published between 1994 and 2011 in English and Undetermined and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The firm: Clive 'Bex' Bissel, estate agent, father and husband, is an average guy, who just happens to be the head of a violent gang of soccer hooligans. As leader of the Intercity Crew, Bex wants to merge his 'firm' with two rival gangs in anticipation of a huge multi-country brawl at the 1988 European Championships. He nominates himself as the leader of a national organization, but his counterparts, Yeti and Oboe refuse to comply, believing that only one firm should be allowed to represent England in Munich. The "soccer hooligan" phenomenon--wherein ordinary people lead side lives dominated by acts of violence and rage--can, if unchecked, escalate out of control and destroy those lives

Questions crowd into his mind as Brian Wilberforce Parsons finds himself alone, dazed and friendless in 1950s London. His troubles, however, have only just begun. Very soon he is swept up in a whirlwind of non-stop a
The teenage dirt-bag years by Paul Howard ( )
3 editions published between 2001 and 2008 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
So there I was, roysh, class legend, schools rugby legend, basically all-round legend, when someone decides you can't, like, sit the Leaving Cert four times. Well that put a focking spanner in the works. But joining the goys at college wasn't the mare I thought it would be, basically for, like, three major reasons: beer, women and more women. And for once I agree with Fionn about the, like, education possibilities. I mean, where else can you learn about Judge Judy, laminating fake IDs and, like, how to order a Ken and snog a girl at the same time? I may be beautiful, roysh, but I'm not stupid
Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, The Miseducation Years The Miseducation Years by Paul Howard ( )
3 editions published between 2003 and 2012 in English and held by 24 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
So there I was, roysh, putting the 'in' in 'in crowd', hanging out, pick of the babes, bills from the old pair to fund the lifestyle I, like, totally deserve. But being a schools rugby legend has its downsides, roysh, like all the total knobs wanting to chill in your, like, reflected glory, and the bunny-boilers who decide they want to be with me and won't take, like, no for an answer. And we're talking totally here. Basically, it may look like a champagne bath with, like, Nell McAndrew, with, like, no clothes and everything, but I can tell you, roysh, those focking bubbles can burst. And when

PS, I scored the bridesmaids by Ross O'Carroll-Kelly ( )
1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
So there I was, roysh, twenty-three years of age, still, like, gorgeous and rich, living off my legend as a schools rugby player, scoring the birds, being the man, when all of a sudden, roysh, life becomes a total mare. I don't have a Betty Blue what's wrong, but I can't eat, can't sleep, I don't even want to do the old beast with two backs, which means a major problem, and we're talking big time here. Normally my head is so full of, like thoughts, but now I'm down to just one: Sorcha, I'm playing it Kool and the Gang, but this is basically scary. I mean, I'm Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, for foc
