Space fighter : the evolutionary city (game:) by MVRDV (Firm)( Book )

3 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 116 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

How do concentrations and settlements 'move'? How do they mutate and/or adapt to this continuous change? What is the struggle, the driving force, behind this? Maybe a process-oriented, 'Darwinist' or evolutionary attitude can be followed towards change and creation, one that models these 'battles', these acts of ascending survival mechanisms. SpaceFighter (the game) wants to model these interactive urban developments. It wants to reflect and compare (in one second or one minute) imaginable interactive urban processes. SpaceFighter has been constructed by Winy Maas in collaboration with the Delft School of Design and the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam
RheinRuhrCity : die Unentdeckte Metropole = the hidden metropolis : the regionmaker by MVRDV (Firm)( Book )

5 editions published in 2002 in 3 languages and held by 101 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"[This book] accompanies the exhibition with the same name in the NRW-Forum Kultur und Wirtschaft in Düsseldorf 2002/2003. The exhibition as well as this book want to generate a discussion on the possible future of the Rhine-Ruhr region in Germany, at a moment that large-scale items again become part of the architectural domain. The REGIONMAKER has been developed as an innovative planning device and has been applied to the agglomeration at Rhine and Ruhr. This most radical and far-sighted analysis of RheinRuhrCity as well as the development of the REGIONMAKER have been made possible through a collaboration between the dutch planning office MVRDV, various academic institutions and highly recommended international professionals. This book can be seen as a 'manual' for the REGIONMAKER and describes the targets and the structure of the software"--Back cover
The Glass Farm : biography of a building by Gerard Buenen( Book )

5 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in English and Dutch and held by 70 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Glass Farm makes for an arresting sight on the market square in the Dutch town of Schijndel. Just as fascinating is the history of how the building came into being. This book tells the story of Winy Maas, who at age 18 asked the mayor to do something with the empty space that had been left in Schijndel's market square since Operation Market Garden bombing in 1944. It took 33 years for the building to be erected. The chronicle of the Glass Farm is a history that reads like a novel

Spijkenisse : make some noise by Nicoline Baartman( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and Dutch and held by 50 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Book Mountain is a building with a mission: to encourage a town populated by the least enthusiastic readers in the Netherlands to switch off their televisions and start reading books again. This biography of the Book Mountain paints a picture of the town of Spijkenisse and the political and social contexts in which such buildings are realized. The story also examines the role of the modern library, the essence of a Ville Nouvelle and the search for an alternative for identification - and whether or not this should be done through historicizing architecture. The often contradictory motives of the protagonists and the context of the project are described in a catchy, straightforward style, befitting Spijkenisse, by former Volkskrant newspaper editor Nicoline Baartman. The story is illustrated with photographs by Marcel Veldman and informative graphics by MVRDV. Book Mountain Spijkenisse. "Biography of a building" is the story of an architect with a vision, a revolutionary councillor, the widow of a veterinarian, an artsy library director and a visionary hero from India who saves the town. It is a fascinating portrayal of life and customs in a new polder town

Five minutes city : architecture and (im)mobility, forum & workshop Rotterdam 2002 by Winy Maas( Book )

5 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What happens with cities when any position in them can be reached within a certain time span and with a specific means of transport? What does a place need when this goal is 2 hours, 1 hour or 5 minutes? How would the FiveMinutesCity be? Publication is the result of a forum and workshop for young architects organized by the Berlage Institute in collaboration with the Mies van der Rohe Foundation (Barcelona) and the Institut Francais d'Architecture (Paris). For this event, the second of a series of three within the framework of the GAUDI program, Winny Maas, architect and partner in MVRDV, was invited as the workshop master. The FiveMinutesCity is conceived by Maas. It is a narrative, squeezed in the format of a PowerPoint presentation with comic book flirtations. It starts with a series of projects by MVRDV and the Berlage Institute and continues with a report of the forum and workshop in Rotterdam. It concludes with a series of essays by the guest professors and lecturers
