Advances in computers( )

in English and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since its first volume in 1960, Advances in Computers has presented detailed coverage of innovations in computer hardware, software, theory, design, and applications. It has also provided contributors with a medium in which they can explore their subjects in greater depth and breadth than journal articles usually allow. As a result, many articles have become standard references that continue to be of sugnificant, lasting value in this rapidly expanding field

Mathematical studies for self-organizing systems by Morris Rubinoff( Book )

5 editions published between 1966 and 1968 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Probably the most significant contribution to result from this study is the greater insight into the characteristics of an interesting self-organization system and a reasonable specification of the elementary properties of such systems. A second major contribution has been the detailed description of a universal self-organizing system in the form of a vertex-labelled graph; a direct relation has been established between one such graph and the behavioral description of a universal Turing machine. It is important to note that the resulting 'computing graph' was then extended to include the capability of self-reproduction, a far-reaching result in its own right, and particularly significant in that self-reproduction is accomplished through a process of self-organization. Semantic tools in information retrieval by Morris Rubinoff( Book )

3 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The report discussed the problem of the meanings of words used in information retrieval systems, and showed how semantic tools can aid in the 'communication' which takes place between indexers and searchers via index terms. After treating the differing use of semantic tools in different types of systems, two tools (classification tables and semantic expansions) were investigated in some detail. Experiments were described concerning statistical techniques for semi-automatic generation of a vocabulary and a set of classification tables for an area of specialization. These techniques enable the construction or updating of semantic aids with far less intellectual effort than now required, but still retain a consensus of expert opinion through the literature produced by experts. Easy English, a language for information retrieval through a remote typewriter console by Moore School of Electrical Engineering( Book )

4 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Easy English is a natural command language designed to simplify communication between man and machine through a remote typewriter console. It is made up of readily recognized sentences of the English language, sentences which any layman might be expected to use in everyday requests for services or articles from a familiar source. Easy English was developed as a command language for retrieval of documents from a computerized data base, specifically from the Moore School Information Systems Laboratory (MSISL) files. It is intended for all information retrieval systems using remote typewriter consoles in a conversational mode
