Augmenting human intellect; a conceptual framework by D. C Engelbart( Book )

5 editions published between 1962 and 1997 in English and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is an initial summary report of a project taking a new and systematic approach to improving the intellectual effectiveness of the individual human being. A detailed conceptual framework explores the nature of the system composed of the individual and the tools, concepts, and methods that match his basic capabilities to his problems. One of the tools that shows the greatest immediate promise is the computer, when it can be harnessed for direct on-line assistance, integrated with new concepts and methods

Experimental Development of a Small Computer-Augmented Information System by D. C Engelbart( Book )

3 editions published in 1972 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Research is reported in three categories of investigation: development of augmented management and operational techniques for running a research intelligence system, further building of the data base, and improvement of the computer aids supporting the processes. A 'People Services Operation' was established with procedures to aid throughout of incoming information and entry into the data base. Procedures for citation formation and citation file- building were refined, and the data base was expanded using these. Progress was made in development of a coordinated automatic process for entry and storage of catalog data and for catalog and index production

Development of a Multidisplay, Time-Shared Computer Facility and Computer-Augmented Management-System Research( Book )

1 edition published in 1968 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report describes work in a continuing research effort on systems for computer aid to management. Specific applications to management problems include management-information systems, aids to conferencing and group interaction, and the ability to maintain highly flexible and dynamic records of various kinds and use them as a working framework. Special software developments for implementation and modification of interactive user aids include the Tree Meta compiler-compiler; the MOL940 machine-oriented programming language; four Special-Purpose Languages (SPL's), for high-level specification of user control functions; and a multipurpose interactive user-aid system (NLS) which integrates these components. Specially developed hardware coupled to the computer provides I/O service to six CRT user consoles. A novel display system uses small CRT's located in the computer room, with television coupling to the individual user consoles. (Author)
Knowledge Workshop Development( Book )

1 edition published in 1976 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The oNLine System, Version 8 (NLS-8) developed at the Augmentation Research Center (ARC) was brought to prototype operation. Improvement in fundamental design continued, but new attention was given to applications and technology transfers. Strategies included an effort to involve more and more users outside ARC, establishment of experts in NLS within user organizations, a training program, an online query system to inform users about NLS, revision of the command language and operation of Network Information Center. New developments include a simple calculator subsystem, multi-host journal system, a variety of options to tailor the system to different working conditions, file access controls, and a control meta language to make user interface writing easier and more flexible. ARC developed a microprocessor-device, the Lineprocessor, to enhance inexpensive displays for use with two-dimensional display NLS and reduce communication cost. ARC made NLS available on a subscription basis through an information utility with its own computer

Engelbart's unfinished revolution( Visual )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

A day-long, public symposium on the 30th anniversary of a historic demonstration in 1968 at a San Francisco computer conference. There Doug Engelbart and his associates debuted the computer mouse, graphical user interface, display editing and integrated text and graphics, hyper-documents, and two-way video-conferencing with shared workspaces. These concepts were to become the cornerstones of modern interactive computing. The symposium brought together Doug Engelbart and members of his historic team, along with other computer visionaries, to consider the impact of Engelbart's work on the last three decades of the computer revolution, to explore the challenges facing us today, and to speculate about the next three decades
Network Information Center and Computer Augmented Team Interaction( Book )
