ARPANET Management Study: New Application Areas( Book )

2 editions published in 1974 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This project seeks the discovery of new applications for computer-netting technology that have high payoff to the Department of Defense. The thrust of the project is now upon the consideration of the feasibility of automating certain routine data base/communications functions with the defense procurement process. The report discusses the procedures used in reaching the tentative conclusions; contains a description of the magnitude of the problem; and proposes preliminary hardware configuration design to allow more careful refining of the parameters. (Modified author abstract)
New Applications for ARPANET Developed Information Processing Technology. Volume I. On the Automation of the Procurement Process: Present Status, Feasibility for Improvements, Proposed Next Steps, and Payoffs( Book )

1 edition published in 1975 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The report discusses technical and economic feasibility of widespread computer-netting technology to aid DOD procurement effectiveness, and describes procurement automation system development, the software and hardware required, and provides a hardware configuration. Next steps are logically detailed in a procurement automation system. Cost-benefit analysis and a survey of procurement automation systems presently in use is provided. It is indicated that savings in excess of $1 billion per year might be achievable in the future
ARPANET Management Study( Book )

1 edition published in 1974 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The study examines some of the issues affecting the long range development of packet switching in general. It specifically considers the role of the ARPANET in this development. The near-term question of transfer of a portion of the communications portion of the ARPANET is examined in detail, and the background of the development of the network is discussed to place the key issues in perspective
New Applications for ARPANET Developed Information Processing Technology. Volume II. Security in the Automated Procurement Process; Secrecy vs. Efficiency: A Legal Analysis( Book )

1 edition published in 1975 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The report discusses the tradeoffs in protection of information in an automated procurement system, in terms of costs and benefits to the government and to society at large. It also examines the alternative policy of increased openness and its security benefits-costs
New Applications for ARPANET Developed Information Processing Technology. Volume III. Briareus - Computer Netting for Design, Fabrication and Repair of Electronic Equipment( Book )

1 edition published in 1975 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The report discusses fabrication of high technology electronics equipment, particularly digitally based systems, by specifying, designing and fabricating equipments on a fully automated basis. A hypothetical universal machine is proposed, operating under computer netted control, combining developments in the automated design, numerical control, and integrated circuit packaging fields. The intended results include computer-engraved PC boards, computer modified equipment, automatic testing, engineering design change drawings, computer repair and maintenance, and computer-made, fully assembled printed circuits at remote locations
