Vita Jesu Christi e quatuor evangeliis et scriptoribus orthodoxis concinnata by Ludolf( Book )

1 edition published in 1529 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Vita Christi, a spiritual classic of the fourteenth century by the Carthusian Ludolph of Saxony, was an early and extremely comprehensive book of meditations on the events recorded in the gospels. A popular and influential book for centuries, it was instrumental in the conversion of Ignatius Loyola, and Teresa of Avila directed that every convent of her reform include "the Carthusian" in its library. This volume, which consists of excerpts from the full Vita Christi (forthcoming from Cistercian Publications), presents Ludolph's meditations on the resurrection and the appearances of the risen Christ, concluding with Pentecost. Although shelves of books are dedicated to Christ's passion, comparatively little spiritual reading for the Easter Season exists. This book is intended to help fill that lacuna and to introduce readers to this classic text

Third Edition of Lefèvre d’Étaples’ influential work on the Pauline Epistles, first printed in 1512. It is considered by many to be “the first Protestant book,” setting forth some of the fundamental doctrines of Protestantism, and marking the beginning of the French Reformation. It rejects tradition and promotes the freedom of individual judgment. The book publishes, in parallel columns, the Vulgate text of the Pauline Epistles along with Lefèvre’s revisions, based on the original Greek, followed by his extensive commentary. In this edition Lefèvre used the text of his friend Erasmus’ Novum Instrumentum (1516) to revise his commentary, but added a lengthy reply to Erasmus’ criticism of his interpretation of Hebrews 2:7 regarding the humanity of Christ, to which Erasmus replied with Apologia ad Iacobum Fabrum Stapulensem (1517). Erasmus’ Novum Instrumentum also mentions Lefèvre frequently and in respectful terms. In addition to the 14 canonical Pauline epistles, this edition also includes several apocryphal pieces, particularly Paul’s correspondence with Seneca, the Epistle to the Laodiceans, and the Passiones Petri et Pauli by Pseudo-Linus. Lefèvre’s work, which was read by Martin Luther, was banned by the Sorbonne in 1521, after Luther’s publications and the beginning of the German Reformation
