Primary non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the cecum: a case report = Primarni ne-Hodgkinov limfom v cekumu: prikaz primera by Mateja Kropivnik( )

1 edition published in 2002 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Background. Primary lymphoma of the colon is rare, constituting 0.4 % of primary colonic malignancies and usually involves cecum or rectum. The aim of this paper is to present the role and the importance of double contrast bariumenema (DCBE) in the diagnostic process. Case report. A 77 years old malewas admitted because of suspected inflammation in the area of total endoprosthesis of the left hip, inserted ten years before. Listeria monocytogenes was isolated from the aspirate and the patient treated with antibiotics. Twenty years ago the patient underwent nephrectomy because of hypernephroma of left kidney. At the time of admission he had sideropenic anaemia and he was febrile. Conclusion. The patient underwent many diagnostic procedures: ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT), double contrast barium enema, which showed a tumour in the cecum, small bowel follow-through and scintigraphy. The diagnosis of primary non-Hodgkin lymphoma was established byhistology after biopsy at colonoscopy
Ultrasound-guided aspiration biopsy of subclinical regional metastases of head and neck carcinoma = [Ultrazvočno vodena aspiracijska biopsija prikritih področnih zasevkov karcinoma glave in vratu]( )

1 edition published in 2000 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Background. Studies concerned with the estimation of ultrasound (US) combined with ultrasound-guided aspiration biopsy (USGAB) in the detection of subclinical regional metastases from the planocellular carcinoma of head and neck are promising, but in few cases. Recently, the authors have pointed out the role of lymph node size parameters in order to decide about the use of USGAB. The aim of this study was to test the reliability of US-USGAB for the detection of subclinical regional metastases in patients with planocellular head and neck carcinomas, including the evaluation of lymph node size parameters. Patients and methods. 121 neck sides with no palpable metastases were examined by US in 77 patients with planocellular carcinomas of head and neck. Depending on the results obtained, USGAB was performed on 64 neck sides. After surgery, the results of US-USGAB were compared with histological findings of the dissected lymph nodes. Results. The study showed 77% overall sensitivity of US and USGAB, and 100% specificity, while the versal / longiyudinal diameter was the best predictor of metastatic lymph node involvement. Conclusion. The results of this study established that USGAB is an appropriate method for detection the subclinical regional metastases on neck, and should be included into routine diagnostic work up in the evaluationof the extent of head and necks carcinomas
Ultrazvočno vodena aspiracijska biopsija s tanko iglo v diagnostiki ledvičnih tumorjev( )

1 edition published in 2011 in Slovenian and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Radiofrekvenčna ablacija primarnih in sekundarnih tumorjev v jetrih = Radiofrequency thermal ablation of the primary and secondary liver tumors( )

1 edition published in 2004 in Slovenian and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Radiofreqency ablation (RFA) is a local ablative method for treatment of unresectable liver metastases and hepatocellular carcinoma. Patients treated are not suitable for surgical resection due to tumor location or advanced liver disease or they do not want to be operated. RFA is often used as adjuvattherapy with surgical resection. First RFA in Slovenia was performed inJuly 2001. Until March 2004 16 patients were treated, 6 due to HCC, 9 due tometastases of the colorectal carcinoma and one due to liver metastases of carcinoid. RFA is a safe method for treatment liver malignant tumors
Treatment of deep vascular lesions using ultrasound-guided intralesional laser photocoagulation by Aleš Vesnaver( )

1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Purpose: The treatment of large, deep-seated vascular lesions in the orofacialregion is often very challenging. The Nd:Y AG laser has already proved to be an effective mode of treatment for vascular lesions. Our goal wasto determine the efficacy and safety of ultrasound (US) guided Nd:YAG lasertreatment of deep-seated vascular leslons. Patients and Methods: A prospective study was conducted in which 9 patients with deep vascular lesionsin the orofacial region were treated under local anaesthesia with US-guided photocoagulation (PhC) using the Nd:YAG laser. The same US probe as used for US-guided aspiration biopsy was used for the procedure, with the f1ber-optic cable inserted into the needle mounted on the US probe. The needlewas then inserted directly into the lesion, its position clearly visi ble on the screen. Photocoagulation was then performed in a systematie sequence under US control, until the whole vase ul ar lesion was coagulated. Follow-up was conducted in all of the cases, time until resolution of swellingwas recorded, as were also postoperative complications. Results: ln patients undergoing intralesional PhC, there was no tissue sloughing as the surface epithelium was not injured. Swelling was present for about one week. There were no cases of inadvertent bleeding. Three patients required two sessions of US-guided PhC. One patient developed alocal intraoral infection, which was controlled with broad spectrum oral antibiotics. Conclusion: US-guided laser photocoagulatlon is a safe and effective tool for the treatment of large vascular leslons
