Autograph letter signed from Augusta : Sherborne [Massachusetts], to Phebe A. Holder, Feltonville, Massachusetts( )

1 edition published in 1850 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

A handwritten folded stampless lettersheet postmarked "South Natick", signed "Augusta", to "dear friend Phebe". Augusta writes that "the organ of hope is pretty fully developed in my pate, according to a certain Phrenologist as well as to my own knowledge of Self, and I cannot say I am sorry it is so. I often enjoy a great deal in imagination also. Is it not a fact that hope is almost always connected with imagination?" She mentions the Teachers' Institute of Milford. Her appreciation of "real good poetry" includes fondness for a poem by Longfellow she just read, "The day is done", which she mostly transcribes in the letter. Later she reassures the recipient, Phebe A. Holder of Feltonville (now Hudson), that writing letters on the Sabbath is not wrong, but is "making good improvement of your time."
