Estimation of ocean surface parameters by high frequency radar by E. W Gill( Book )

4 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This document describes the advances that have been made in the use of high frequency (HF) Doppler radars for the remote sensing of various surface parameters in an ocean environment. It presents an experimental design used by Northern Radar Systems, the results, a discussion and conclusions. Results presented are compared with data provided by the Canadian Atmospheric Environment Service, as well as with a Pierson-Moskowitz ocean model
Estimation of environmental parameters using narrow beam ground wave radar by E. W Gill( Book )

4 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A 40-element narrow bean linear array operating in the ground wave mode was built at Cape Race, Newfoundland. This antenna, receiving vertically polarized high-frequency (HF) radiation from over the horizon, has been used to determine surface parameters in an ocean environment. Recently developed inversion algorithms have allowed the extraction of such quantities as significant waveheight and windspeed from the radar power spectrum Results presented are compared with data provided by the Canadian Atmospheric Environment Service (AES)
Measurement of ocean wave spectra using a ship-mounted HF radar by R Howell( Book )

1 edition published in 1992 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A promising alternative to in situ methods such as wave buoys for measuring ocean wave spectra is HF ground wave radar. This paper describes an algorithm used to extract the nondirectional wave-height spectrum from the backscatter return of a stationary ship- or rig-mounted radar employing an omnidirectional antenna for both transmission and reception. To test the effectiveness of the algorithm, its estimates are compared to those of a WAVE-TRACK buoy using data collected onboard CFAV Quest during 1988
A Least squares technique for interpreting CODAR data by K. J Hickey( Book )

2 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar (CODAR) system is a portable ground wave radar system capable of measuring ocean surface currents beyond the horizon. This paper presents a technique that uses the data from only one station to estimate the current field. The inverse problem of determining the current from its radial components is addressed by calculating the pseudo- inverse solution to the problem using a singular value decomposition
