Maria Anna Niehus was born on 25 August 1818 in Rheine Germany and died on 18 July 1861 in Newport, Kentucky. Her parents were John Bernard Niehus and Anna Mollers. Maria immigrated to America with her sister Anna Maria Theresa, known as Theresa, in 1846. They arrived in Baltimore and later settled in Ohio. Maria married Joseph Plagemann, son of George Plagemann and Elisabeth Heeke, on 6 October 1850 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joseph was born on 10 December 1821 in Rodde, Germany and died in 1885 in Newport, Kentucky. Theresa was born in Altenrheine, Germany on 17 November 1824 and died on 1 January 1893 in Newport, Kentucky. She married Bernard Anton Deiterman, son of Dieterich Herman Deiterman and Anna Elisabeth Farwick, on 2 May 1852 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Anton was born on 13 January 1819 in Telgte, Germany and died on 1 May 1876 in Newport, Kentucky. Ancestors, descendants and relatives resided primarily in Germany, Ohio and Kentucky

The interviews document the personal experiences and perspectives of those whose lives are directly impacted by policies related to disabilities and who live in a culture that defines them as disabled. Interviews are being conducted by students and faculty in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Eastern Kentucky University
