In Kurdistan, Iraq, near the Turkish border, a few weeks before the U.S.-Iraq war, near an enormous refugee camp an enterprising kid nicknamed Satellite makes a living installing TV antennas, hooking up the occasional satellite connection, and hiring out a worshipful gang of boys to perform odd jobs. Mostly they remove land mines and they do a good job of the dangerous work. Some have suffered for it, but they manage. A boy known to everyone as The Boy With No Arms, gently disarms mines by removing the firing pin with his lips. The prospect of war fills everyone with dread. The children suffer first, and suffer hardest. Death might come from the sky or from the ground, or it might not come at all, but the prospect of it always lingers

Darbārah-ʼi 111 dukhtar = About 111 girls( Visual )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"About 111 Girls is a satirical road movie about a pompous but empathetic government bureaucrat sent by the Iranian president himself to investigate the case of 111 young women threatening to jump off a cliff together in the tiny far-off corner of Kurdistan. Due to economic and political strife, there seem to be no prospective husbands around, and these young women are protesting the conditions that have left them spinsters. The bureaucrat, accompanied by an assistant and a little boy who seems to be both guide and interpreter, leads the search to find the women. Shot like a documentary-peppered with real interviews with real locals-the film follows the investigation. Are these girls serious about committing suicide or not? The local residents are reluctant to talk to the minister and he really gets nowhere until he comes to a mountain teahouse where one girl tells him the truth. Absurdly comic, with trenchant insights into issues of marriage and independence, these 111 girls' desperate message is one about respect."--Seattle International Film Festival (2013) website

2 editions published in 2011 in Arabic and French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
