Cristophe expresses his dismay over Napoleon III's surrender at Sedan (1870 Sept. 10), and his worries during the siege of Paris (1871 Feb. 11). On the eve of the peace negotiations he speaks about the military and political mistakes that led the country to disaster (1871 Feb. 14)
