Handling the Hijacker ( Book )
1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The primary objective in controlling hijackers must be to prevent them from getting aboard an aircraft and techniques to achieve this objective are being developed. However, for the foreseeable future some hijackers will be able to escape detection and gain entry to aircraft. It is consequently desirable that flight deck crews, cabin attendants and air crew management have practical guidelines to assist them in coping with the in-cabin hijacker when the aircraft is airborne or on the ground. The paper is based on information gained from studies of hijackings which have occurred in the United States and Canada. (Author Modified Abstract)

Development of expected noise spectra, siren programming techniques, and experiment plans for the asd sonic fatigue facility ( Book )
1 edition published in 1963 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
The ASD Sonic Fatigue Facility affords the opportunity for a fully-coordinated program of sonic fatigue research. In preparation for such a program a study was conducted to establish future acoustic and pseudo-acoustic spectra, to develop optimum programming techniques for the sirens, and to plan a set of correlated research experiments. Results of a literature and industry survey are given in prediction of future spectra. Analytical and analog-computer results of the siren-programming study are given in detail for AM, FM, and AM/FM operational modes. The experiments are summarized, but detail is omitted. (Author)
Development of an Understanding of the Fatigue Phenomena of Bonded and Bolted Joints in Advanced Filamentary Composite Materials. Volume 3. Fatigue Analysis and Fatigue Mode Studies ( )
1 edition published in 1972 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide
This report presents the results of the empirical program undertaken to increase the basic understanding of the fatigue phenomena of advanced composites joints. Four basic design concepts have been evaluated and include both bonded and mechanically fastened joints. A broad spectrum of joint geometry variations and loading conditions are included to identify the significant parameters affecting the fatigue endurance of composite joints. Test data and analyses are included for constant amplitude testing and program fatigue loading. Realistic spectrum and block spectrum data are evaluated using Miners Cumulative Damage Theory. In conjunction with other analyses and evaluations, failure mode studies were conducted on the fracture surface of failed specimens. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) photomicrographs were used for this failure study. Specific failure modes related to specimen configuration, loading conditions, and fatigue history were defined. Failure modes that have been identified and related to loading conditions include; shear in the resin versus load direction and stress ratio (R); peel in the laminate due to a cleavage load; peel or tension fracture due to tension-tension fatigue. Some specimens subjected to complex loading exhibited multiple failure modes
