Max and Katrin, who had lost touch with each other 15 years ago, meet again at a pharmaceutical congress in Munich. Katrin now works for the pharma industry; Max is in charge of a bush hospital in Africa together with his friend Sam. After spending an evening and a night together they both realise that they have never stopped loving one another. Katrin had never revealed to Max the reason for her sudden change of profession: a little boy died as she was operating on him. She has never overcome this trauma. When Max asks her to marry him, Katrin says yes spontaneously. Max is a widower and in Guguletho, Namibia, he has two children, Neo (11) and Lindiwe (7). Katrin burns all her bridges in Germany and follows Max to Africa. When she lands in Namibia, no-one is there to meet her.
