This group portrait of Queen Anne's court is thought to depict the ceremony installing the Knights of the Garter held at Kensington Palace on Aug. 4, 1713. Although the six knights taking part in the ceremony can not be individually identified they are believed to be: Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort (1665-1714); Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent (1684-1714); Robert Harley, 1st Earl of Oxford (1664-1740); Charles Mordaunt, 3rd Earl of Peterborough (1658-1735); John Poulett, 1st Earl of Poulett (1663-1743); and, Charles Talbot, 1st Duke of Shrewsbury (1660-1718)
