Abstract:
The history of Greece continues with the bitter struggle between Sparta and Athens for mastery of the Hellenic world. Sparta emerges victorious, but the ascendancy of Thebes and the still greater power of Philip of Macedon lead to a consolidation of power and the ascendancy of Alexander the Great. Under Alexander, the banner of Hellenic culture reaches across the Persian Empire and into India. This was followed by the Hellenic age and the final subjugation of Greece by Rome.
