Not peer-reviewed   (2009-05-06)

Poor

Apparently this publication is phony, according to the Scientist magazine headline "Merck published a fake Journal": http://www.the-scientist.com/templates/trackable/display/blog.jsp?type=blog&o_url=blog/display/55671&id=55671

Llama, llama red pajama

by Anna Dewdney

  Book : Fiction : Preschool

A bedtime staple   (2009-06-09)

Excellent

We read this book every night before we go to bed. It's how we wind down for the day and go to sleep.

Our child is 20 months old and is not scared of the book or of Mama Llama not being there for the baby. In fact, it's a great teaching tool to help her understand that her...

Appropriate for novices and expert home bakers, alike   (2008-05-16)

Excellent

This cookbook is a great one for both beginning bakers and home experts. There are classic recipes, such as banana bread, muffins, cakes, pies and quick breads. But then there are also more advanced/involved recipes that require "the butter package," for example--croissants, brioche, pate choix, etc.Full...

Delicious, nutritious, delightfully tasty recipes   (2006-09-11)

Excellent

Just about everything I've made from Rebar has been no-holds-barred, hands-down absolutely delicious. They strike the right balance between healthy and tasty--always favouring the tasty! Wanda and Audrey emphasize fresh, wholesome foods--they introduced me to ancho chile sauce and I haven't been the same...

The rise of the creative class : and how it's transforming work, leisure, community and everyday life

by Richard L Florida

  Book

Great as an overview or for specific cities   (2008-10-24)

Excellent

I picked up this book as the authoritative text on the so-called "creative class." It did not disappoint. Despite being a little more academic than other quick-to-absorb-the-concept business books, it was still highly readable and packed with research data.

There are plenty of charts and lists...

Harold and the purple crayon

by Crockett Johnson

Book : Fiction : Juvenile audience

Good for encouraging imaginations   (2008-10-24)

Very Good

My daughter is 13 months old and she hasn't been able to sit through the whole book in one sitting quite yet. It does require more attention span than some of the shorter "board" books out there.

But I love the idea that it's teaching her to make her own adventures and use her imagination freely.

I...

Labyrinths; selected stories & other writings.

by Jorge Luis Borges

Book : Fiction  |  [Augmented ed

One of my favorite books   (2008-10-07)

Excellent

If you haven't stepped into the alternate universe of Borges--even if only for a brief time--you have missed out on a wonderful adventure. This is a great book and not one to be missed. Each story is layered with meaning, allusion and metaphor.
