The Pura Belpre Award is awarded to the author and illustrator best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino experience in children and young adult literature. It is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (REFORMA). Awarded every other year from 1996-2008, it will be awarded annually beginning in 2009. |
