Two take home lessons - 1) Can't torture/repress way out of terrorism and 2) Most of Colombia's worst political violence was from wars between the Conservative and Liberal parties. Let's not go there, ok?

Notes:
Haste just doesn't make waste. It can ruin people's lives and push leaders into making bad decisions. So argue the authors. Best takeaway lesson - always ignore the first few mentions of a news story. They probably got it wrong in their rush to be 1st.

For a US Gov't publication about Iran, I found this book fairly evenhanded. It also taught me a number of things I didn't know about Iran that I blogged about at Alaskan Librarian.

Notes:
Ms. Fassihi was a WSJ journal in Iraq from September 2002 through December 2005. She manages to follow a surprising number of regular iraqis through the heartbreak of liberation through occupation.

Notes:
As of 10/16/08, I'm still listening to audiobook version, but highly recommend. Section on four traits of clowns and his dream business school are enough to recommend book.

I listened to the audiobook version and came away impressed. There really does seem to be a lot of common ground for environmentalism between left and right. Book is stuffed with success stories like how Portland reduced greenhouse emissions to 1990 level
