When Castro's rebel forces take over Hanana, Julian and his brother are sent to Miami to wait for their parents who are still in Cuba. What they find in Miami is far different than what they expected. They are dumped into an overcrowded camp for children from Cuba with very little adult supervision. Before their parents arrive, the two older brothers are sent to an orphanage and Julian runs away. I liked it a lot, and it got me thinking about what it must be like to leave everything behind, including your family and come to a new country.
