Abstract:

Correspondence, deeds, tax statements, other legal papers regarding settlement of the estates of James Abbott Sr. and Samuel Abbott of Michilimackinac. Correspondents include James Abbott II, executor of both estates, his brothers Robert and Samuel, John Law of Vincennes, Ind., Judge William Woodbridge, Mrs. Marie Abbott, widow of Samuel, and other family members. Deeds and other legal papers pertain to real estate in Detroit, Wayne County, other counties in Michigan and the donation lands at Vincennes, Ind. Two of the deeds are Indian grants signed with totems. A few letters relate to the family's shipping interests.
