Abstract:

This special topic poll, conducted November 5-6, 2001, was undertaken to assess the public's attitudes toward terrorism overseas and at home, the war in Afghanistan, and the anthrax crisis. Respondents were asked for their views on George W. Bush as president and his handling of the nation's economy. Opinions were also sought on the United States military involvement in Afghanistan, whether it was necessary to have United States ground troops in Afghanistan, the position of the United States toward Osama Bin Laden, and whether the success of the war on terrorism implied the captivity or death of Osama Bin Laden. The survey also queried respondents about the Bush administration's willingness to provide reliable information to the public, the federal government's response to the anthrax crisis, whether respondents were confident in the ability of the government to prevent further terrorist attacks in the United States, airport security, and whether respondents were concerned about personally becoming victims of a terrorist attack. In addition, respondents were asked to assess the differences between Bush and the Democrats in Congress in the handling of the economy, and to give their opinions about a proposed new system of national identification. Background information includes the respondent's political party affiliation, education level, race, and gender ... Cf.: http://dx.doi.org/10.3886/ICPSR03322.
