Abstract:

In early 2008, the Atlantic Aboriginal Drug Forum brought together a group of more than one hundred community leaders and stakeholders to begin the creation of a guiding framework that could inform a regional drug strategy for First Nations communities. The summary of that first discussion became a living document, used to facilitate and inspire further dialogues over subsequent months. At each point of conversation, participants were encouraged to express what they as individuals, as community leaders, as professionals and/or as agents of change would commit to do in order to advance the agenda of prevention, treatment and resilience in addressing the addictions crisis confronting First Nation communities.
