Contents: Shot description: The banquet room. A service banner unfurls, showing the "number of men in service" (27,677). Lowell Mellett, chief of the Bureau of Motion Pictures, Office of War Information, speaks of the U.S. government's duty to keep the people informed without telling them what to think. The war is to save and perpetuate democracy, not destroy it; therefore the government is not going to enter the motion picture business. Master of Ceremonies Bob Hope makes jokes. Mrs. William Wyler, on behalf of her husband, accepts the award for Best Direction (Mrs. Miniver) from Lt. Col. Frank Capra. Louis B. Mayer accepts the award for outstanding production (for Mrs. Miniver) from William Goetz. Lt. Van Heflin accepts the Best Supporting Actor award (for Johnny Eager) from Gary Cooper. James Cagney accepts the Best Actor award (for Yankee Doodle Dandy) from Cooper. Teresa Wright accepts the Best Supporting Actress award (for Mrs. Miniver) from Joan Fontaine. Greer Garson accepts the Best Actress award for Mrs. Miniver. Garson poses with Cagney; they embrace and kiss; they pose with Heflin and Wright; Garson poses with statuette; Heflin, Garson, Wright, and Cagney pose together (these last 4 shots MOS).
